The Gardener

An unkempt garden grows and grows

The devilish vines

And stubborn roots

Entangle together in twisted rows

Chirping birds move lazily

From tree to tree

Their feathers wisping against each other

In quiet solidarity

The gloomiest rain passes through

As does the brightest sun

Missing nothing and nobody

But one

Maybe if the trees, the flowers, and the plants

Could have their say

They would ask you to tend to them

Please, if you may

All it would take to start the garden anew

Is for someone special to return

Someone magic and fantastic

Someone like you

You’d trim the wild leaves

 and pick the ripened fruits

With bare hands you could uplift

The most menacing roots

A garden once loved

Is locked up and forgotten

A pathway once marked by your footsteps

Is now completely untrodden

Saddened by the stillness

And the overgrown weeds

The garden caves in on itself

Finally claiming defeat.
